Ronald McDonald House, Auckland

Ronald McDonald House Auckland is a "home away from home" for families from all over New Zealand whose desperately ill children require potentially lifesaving treatment.

Ronald McDonald House

RMH provides shelter and support for these families who must travel to Auckland because the specialist treatment their child urgently requires isn't necessarily available to them nearby.

Fmilies who have children in intensive care are also provided with emergency accommodation in our Ronald McDonald House Family Room located inside Starship, when even being five minutes away from their child is too far.

The House and Family Room are run by the RMH Auckland Trust which is a 100% community charitable trust.

Waitemata Harbour Clean-Up Trust

Formed in 2002, the Waitemata Harbour Clean-Up Trust is a charitable organisation that oversees the removal of litter from Auckland's Waitemata Harbour and inner gulf islands, and promotes the concept of clean, clear rubbish-free waterways.

The staff scoops up a wide variety of rubbish from the Waitemata Harbour including plastic wrap and tyres. Kayaks or a flat-bottomed punt are used to clean along the shoreline and beaches as well as in estuaries.

Fairfax First Books

Fairfax First Books is a charity established by Fairfax Media in 2006 to improve the reading levels of under five year olds in disadvantaged communities and promote reading within their families.

Through Fairfax First Books, each child who attends a low decile kindergarten in New Zealand receives one book each term to take home and keep. There are nearly 4,500 New Zealand children who attend these qualifying kindergartens, which is around 18,000 books per year.

Thanks to Fairfax Media and Round the Bays funding, the programme is again taking place in 2009 and has grown with many more kindergartens around the country now receiving books each term.
